| | SUMMARY OF THE MARCH 18, 2014, PERRY PUBLIC MEETING On March 18, 2014, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Quail Hollow Resort in Painesville, Ohio, to discuss the 2013 annual assessment results for Perry. Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees for the meeting. A copy of the slides used by the NRC's staff during the meeting is located in ADAM S at Accession Number ML14079A091. |
| | At the meeting, the NRC provided an overview of the reactor oversight program, the results of the 2013 annual assessment for Perry, and the NRC's inspection plans for 2014. The NRC's presentation was followed by statements from the Perry Site Vice-President and the Director of Site Operations which included information on the performance and accomplishments for 2013, the plant priorities for 2014, a 40-million dollar financial commitment to post-Fukushima efforts, the continued focus on improving occupational radiation safety, and on the planning for the 2015 refueling outage. Cynthia Pederson, the Regional Administrator for the NRC's Region III Office, acknowledged the information provided by the Perry officials and emphasized the importance of Perry continuing in 2014 the improvement in performance seen in 2013 that resulted in the NRC moving Perry from the Degraded Cornerstone Colum n (Column 3) of the NRC's Action Matrix to the Licensee Response Column (Column 1). |
| | |
| | After the business part of the meeting ended, NRC and Perry representatives listened to comments and attempted to address several questions from the public. The questions were related to tritium releases at Perry, the number and manufacturer of the spent fuel dry cask storage units used at Perry, an overview of post-Fukushima efforts taken by Perry, and the use by Perry of a local vendor for transfer of radioactively contaminated material. NRC representatives provided additional information to a member of the public after the meeting. |
