SUMMARY

OF THE JANUARY 14, 2009, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS FENOC FLEET PERFORMANCE On January 14, 2009, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Perry Schools Manchester West Training Center, Perry, Ohio. The meeting was between NRC Regions I and III, and FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) management to discuss fleet performance. The meeting notice and licensee presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML083590148 and ML090210169, respectively. A list of principal NRC and licensee meeting participants is enclosed.

The NRC began the meeting with a brief introduction, then FENOC management discussed individual plant performance, their fleet-wide approach to sustaining performance improvements, and improving site performance at the Beaver Valley, Davis-Besse, and Perry Nuclear Power Plants. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials.

The meeting provided a useful forum to discuss common themes at the FENOC plants with the NRC Regions and the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. The meeting concluded with a discussion of plans to continue these meetings involving the NRC regions and program offices and all plants in the FENOC fleet on an annual basis.
