RochesterGasandElectricissubmittingtheattached10CFR,Part21EvaluationandNotification.ThenotificationconcernsapotentialmaterialdefectofSMAtypetorqueswitchessuppliedbyLimitorqueduringthelate1960's.Onehundredseven(107)ofonehundredeight(108)motoroperatedvalves(MOV)installedatR.E.GinnaNuclearPowerPlant,actuatorwiringconfigurationswereinspectedinconjunctionwithanon-goingElectricalControlConfigurationDrawingUpgradeProject.Twenty-sixhadSMA-typetorqueswitchesinstalled.TheSMA-typetorqueswitchisablackfibrous,laminated,phenolicmaterial.Tenofthetwenty-sixswitchesdemonstratedlooseone-quarterinchsocketheadmountingscrewsandnineofthetwenty-sixdemonstratedloosewireterminationbolts.Noneofthevalveswiththeloosetorqueswitchboltingdemon-stratedoperabilityproblemsduringoperationsortesting.Thecauseofthelooseboltingappearstobeconsolidationorcom-pressionofthefibrousmaterialand/orvibration.Specificinformationregardingfailureidentificationandcorrec-tiveactiontakenaredetailedontheenclosedAttachment1.Shouldfurtherinformationberequired,pleasecontactMr.ThomasMarlow,SuperintendentofGinnaSupportServicesat315/524-4446.9006li036900531PDRADOCK05000244PDC
