failure identified above.

2C DG Failure on 5-12-86 l

t At 1350 on 5-12-86, the 2C DG.as started to perform an operability test.

Upon starting, the plant operator noticed that no frequency or voltage was indicated.

However, speed indication and DG status lights functioned correctly. The control power fuses and control circuits vere check-d and no problem vas found.

The DG vas restarted and it tripped due to overspeed. No cause for the trip was discovered. The overspeed trip switch was reset. The field flashing circuit was checked and the K1 field flashing relay was manually operated. The DG vas restarted and proper Indications were received locally and on the eaergency power board. The DG t

va-returned to service at 1955 on 5-12-86.

The K1 relay was checked again late. in the shift and was verified to be operating properly. No correlation between the overspeed trip and loss of indication could be found.

This was the first failure in the last 100 starts for this type of DG, Na change in the surveillance schedule was necessary. The surveillance interval remaine' at fourteen days in accordance with Technical Specification Table 4.8.1.
