i MIDIAND UUCLEAR FIAUT - UNIT NO 1 TENDON SHEATHING INTERIM REPORT - DOCKET No 50-329 i This letter is an interim report.in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.55(e) dealing with the location of tendon sheathing in the Midland Unit No 1 containment wall.

On April 19, 1977, a.noncenformance to design requirements was found involving four misplaced tenden 'shcathings to be installed at approximate elevation 700'-70!+' in the' Midland Unit No 1 contain=ent building. As is shown on the attached Bechtel Drawing No SK-C-537, four tendons (# H32-037, H13-037, H32-036, H13-036) were to be deflected. downward to clear the two main steam penetrations at center line clevation 707'-0". Contrary to this, and as is also shown on the attached Bechtel Drawing No SK-C-537, two tendon sheathings (H32-037 and H13-037) were not installed in the local area directly below the penetrations.

Concrete had been poured to a construction joint at elevation 703'-7" approxi-mately one week before this nonconfor=ance was found by the survey team during preparations for the next wall lift.

I Subsequent to discovery of this nonconformance, it had been decided to place tendon sheathing H13-037 below the main steam penetrations and to place tendon sheathing H32-037 above the main steam penetrations. This configuration is shown on the attached Bechtel Drawing No SK-C-538. The suppliers of the post-tensioning system have concurred with this decision. ,

However, as of this date, complete information on the effect of the above pro-posed action on the post-tensioning system, main steam penetration acccmblics, steel reinforcing bar, and concrete wall are not availabic. We expect to be able to provide this information in a future report, either interim or final, which will be sent on or before June 20, 1977.
