($17) 78&O453 November 15, 1984 84-16 #1 Mr J G Keppler, Regional Administrator US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 MIDLAND ENERGY CENTER PROJECT DOCKET NOS 50-329 AND 50-330 CARDINAL INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS CORPORATION SPARE STUDS FILE: 0.4.9.103 SERIAL: 32078 On October 10, 1984, Consumers Power Company (CP Co) notified your staff of a reportable condition concerning spare studu received from Cardinal Industrial Products Corporation. Concurrence was received on November 15 from W Shafer of your staff to extend the submittal date of this written report to November 21, 1984. Pending resolution of our discussion with the staff on our request to wane the requirement to submit a written 30-day 50.55(e) report during the project shutdown, we have prepared this interim report on the above subject.
Description of Concern CP Co received a 10CFR21 report from Cardinal Industrial Products Corporation.
The report stated that the possibility eristed that four of thirty two 3 1/2"-B-26" studs may not have received the required ultrasonic exsuination.
These studs were ordered as spare parts, but had not been assigned to a specific application.
Safety Impact The safety impact of this condition is indeterminate.
Root Cause No root cause has been determined for this condition.
