30324 This letter is an interim 10CFR50.55(e) report on a potentially reportable-deficiency in the system for controlling retroactive design changes. This condition was reported by telecon to the NRC on May 18, 1984.
The attachment to this letter provides a description of the deficiency and the corrective actions being planned.

As a result of a review of Midland project design change documents, it was determined that the method utilized on the project for cont olling retroactive design changes may not adequately ensure that associated hardware had the l
required design changes and inspections performed. This concern was addressed on Consumers Power Company (CPCo) Safety Concern and Reportability Evaluation (SCRE) 99 and CPCo Management Corrective Action Request / Report (MCAR/R) - TWI-1.
No nonconforming hardware or safety concern has been identified from t!'e reviews/
