0.4.9.111 SERIAL: 32402 On September 12, 1985 Consumers Power Company (CPCo) notified your staff of reportable conditions on Anchor Darling Swing Check. Valves.

In accordance with the requirements'of 10 CFR 50.55(e) CPCo is making this interim report.

Description of Concern CPCo received a copy of Bechtel Deficiency.Eva'luation Report.(DER)'84-102 which documents a reportable condition encountered at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. The report identifies problems with Anchor Derling Swing Check. Valves..Specifically, set screws were not set tight enough against the hinge pin, and in some cases were missing a required tack weld.. Additionally, the disc nut pin was not welded.to'the disc nut as. required.' -Either of these conditions could make the valve' inoperable. There are some Anchor Darling Swing Check Valv'es installed at the Midland Energy Center which have either the same, or similar design as those associated with~the problems identified
