In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.55(e), CP Co in making this interim report.

Description of Concern CP Co received a Gulf and Western 10 CFR 21 report. The report indicated that a Vibration Aging and Seismic Testing Program conducted on a similar actuator resulted in the failure of the actuator's latch roller bearing, number 28N8L48554J. The bearings in the four Midland actuators are identical to the test bearing and may be subject to failure under similar test conditions. In addition, the hydraulic latching pressure of the Midland actuators is about the same as the test actuator. Therefore, the static load to be imposed on the present bearing exceeds the manufacturer's published maximum rated load for that bearing.

Safety Impact The safety impact of this condition is indeterninate.

Root Cause No root cause has been determined for this condition.
