^BECHTEL POWER CORPORATION COMPUTER ANALYSIS PROGRAM ME101 FILE: 0.4.9.114 B3.9 SERIAL: 32575 On January 21, 1986 Consumers Power Company (CPCo) verbally notified your staff of a potentially reportable condition concerning a computer analysis program.

In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.55(e), CPCo is making this interim report.

Description of Concern CPCo received written notification from Bechtel Power Corporation which ddentifies an error in a computer analysis program. .The-specific _ program identified is ME101, versions J4, J5, K1 and K2. Version J 4 was released'on June 20, 1983, with the remaining versions being subsequent releases.

~

Bechtel has indicated that the problem will be corrected and released as version K3. Program ME101 is used to perform static.'and dynamic load analysis of piping systems considering thermal expansion, dead weight, seismic effects, externally applied' static loads, and externally or internally induced dynamic effects. The-specific error identified in this program.is that incorrect data results when'ME101 is used;to perform static analysis utilizing a uniform load for wind, jet impingement 'or. suppression pool hydrodynamic loading conditions in conjunction with the' optional EAL internal _ program solver.

At this -time, it has been determined that- the design analysis. perfo$1med for ithe Midland Energy Center used the ME101 program. : However, it has not been established whether the analysis' performed included static, analysis of 3 uniformly applied wind 'or jet impingement loading . conditions in conjunction -

with the EAL' internal program solver, during the time:frase when~the code.

discrepancies existed.
