Dear Mr. Denton:

By letter of December 19, 1980, Mr. Robert L. Tedesco of your staff requested that an ultimate capacity analysis be performed for the Catawba containments.

On November 17, 1980, Duke Power submitted an ultimate capacity analysis of the McGuire (Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370) containment vessels. Since the McGuire and Catawba containment vessels are nearly identical, it is expected that the ultimate static capability would be approximately the same.

An ultimate capacity analysis will be performed for the Catawba containment vessels as a part of t.he overall stress analysis of the Catawba containments.

The results of the ultimate capacity analysis will be provided by June 1,1982. .
