through          Between approximately 0900 and 1030 hours on November 27, a November 30        potential safety problem was created when a motor operated valve from the refueling water storage tank was placed on clearan.:e while the diesel generator which provides emergency power for the redundant valve was also on clearance.      The redundant valve was immediately opened upon discovery (LER 79-46). Station shutdown was commenced at 2200 hours and the unit was taken off-line at 2400 hours on November 30 to begin an extended outage for refueling and major station modifications. The reactor tripped at 0029 hours (on December 1) due to a signal spike causing a source range channel high flux trip.

Major Safety-Related Maintenance - November, 1979

1. Radiation monitors for the containment internal atmosphere, the ventilation system exhaust and the liquid waste effluent discharge line were repaired and placed back into service.
2. A torque switch on the redundant supply valve from the refueling water storage tank to the high head charging pumps [MOV-CH-115D] was replaced when the valve would not close remotely.
