DUQUESNE LIGHT COMPAhT Beaver Valley Power Station NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
OF MONTHLY OPERATING EXPERIENCE - JULY 1980 July 1 Station in Operational Mode 5 with the reactor Through coolant system vented to atmosphere and a system July 31 temperature approximately 90F.
MAJOR SAFETY RELATED MAINTENANCE - JULY 1980 Beaver Valley Power Station is presentl' shut down for major system modifications required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. These modifications are performed as construction activities. The following major modifications were performed or in progress during July 1980.
- 1. Final inspection of the re-installed Bergen-Patterson large-bore snubbers was in progress.
- 2. Modifications to the refueling water storage tank are. in progress. These modifications provide additional quench spray system capacity and incorporate additional controls required for automatic change-over from injection mode to recirculation mode.
- 3. Installation of the chemical addition pumps, which add sodium hydroxide solution to the quench spray during containment depressurization, has been started.
- 4. The modification to increase the capacity of the quench spray pumps re-installation and proof-testing was completed.
- 5. Inspection and modification, on a continual basis as required, of pipe hangers, supports and baseplates are in progress.
- 6. Inspection, internal cleaning and modification of the reactor coolant pump motor thrust runners are in progress.
- 7. Inspection and installation of the Unit 2 low pressure turbine rotors into the Unit 1 main turbine has been completed.
