REPORT OF ABNORMAL INDICATIONS FROM HETAL IMPACT HONITORING SYSTEM (HINS)

TURKEY POINT UNIT 4 SEPTEMBER 22-25 1978 Alarms were generated by the HIHS between September 22 and September 25, 1978, while Turkey Point Unit No. 4 was performing initial reactor coolant pump runs and reactor coolant system heatup following a scheduled refueling. The noise was identical in nature to the noises whi ch followed the 1977 refueling.

Our review of the tlIHS data (strip chart and magnetic tape recordings) concluded that the nature of th'e impact as seen on the Osci llograph was similar to what we reported seeing on last year's recordings. Therefore, the conclusions presented in our letter dated July 29, 1977 (L-77-241) are still valid. Continued safe operation is ensured by our continuing commit-ment of performing core barrel motion measurements after unit heatups and for continued loose parts monitoring.
