Inordertoaccelerate theseenhancements, NMPC-QAisperforming anassessment ofeachoftheContractor's QualityAssurance Programs.

Theseassessment activities arediscussed below.DuringareviewofsomeofthemajorcausesofQCrejection ofITTwelds,itwaslearnedthatITT'sprocedure requiredthateachwelderstencilhisweld,whileSWEC'sprocedure didnot.Coderequirements weremetbybothprocedures (ITTandSWEC)byhavingweldandwelderidentified onawelddatasheet.Thisdifference inprocedure wasremovedinAugust1984,therebyeliminating oneofthemajorcausesofthehighrejectrate.However,sincetherateofrejectsstillhasnotreachedanacceptable level,corrective actionswillcontinue.

Stone5Webster's detailedauditoftheSWECQualityAssurance Monitoring Programforcontractors hasbeencompleted andthefinal.-reporthasbeenissued.Severalauditobservations requirea.'esponse fromSWECQA.Theobservations addressenhancements to;SWEC'sQAmonitoring andrecordsreviewprogram.NNPCProjectQualityAssurance performed adetailedassessment oftheeffectiveness andadequacyoftheon-sitecontractors programs.
