Thirty(30)DaySpecialReportInoperableFireSuppressionSystemR.E.GinnaNuclearPowerPlant,UnitNo.1DocketNo.50-244InaccordancewiththeprovisionsofSection3.14.2ofR.E.GinnaTechnicalSpecifications,thisSpecialReportregardinginoperablecomponentsoftheFireSuppressionSystemisherebysubmitted.OnApril13,,1992withthePlantincoldshutdownformaintenanceandrefueling,stationmodificationprocedureSM-4668.1"Fire'rotectionSystemFireRelayPanel"wasinitiatedtorelocatethefirerelaypanel.FromthisdatetheDieselDrivenFirePumpandtheMotorDrivenFirePumpwereelectricallyisolatedfromtherelaypanel,disablingtheautostartlogicforthesecomponents.Althoughcapableofbeingstartedmanually,bothpumpsweredeclaredinoperableandprocedureA-52.4"ControlofLimitingConditionsforOperatingEquipment"wasinitiatedat0820onApril13.DuringthisperiodtheFireProtectionDepartmentestablishedfirewatchpatrolsonthefirepumpsandsuppressionsystemsaffectedbythemodificationandinstructionswereprovidedtotheAuxiliaryOperatorsonstartingthedieseldrivenpump(localpushbutton)ifrequired.OnApril25theautostartfunctionforbothpumpswasreinstated.However,theA-52.4oneachpumpremainedineffectuntilcompletionofthepostmodifi-cationfunctionaltesting.TheMotorDrivenFirePumpwasdeclaredoperableonMay1,1992.TheDieselDrivenFirePumpremained-inoperableforcorrectivemaintenanceduetotracesoffueloilfoundinthecrankcaseduringtheweeklysurveillanceonApril28.n,rye~'vv..t.cy20529000305000244q20520PDRADOCHopDR8~MgP~/o Letter:Page2
