Mr. Dennis Koehl President and CEO STP Nuclear Operating Company South Texas Project Electric Generating Station P.O. Box 289 Wadsworth, TX 77483

SUBJECT: NON-PUBLIC SECURITY INSPECTION PLAN FOR SOUTH TEXAS PROJECT ELECTRIC GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (NRC PHYSICAL SECURITY INSPECTION REPORT NUMBERS 05000498/2016401 AND 05000499/2016401)

Dear Mr. Koehl:

On August 9, 2016, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) completed its mid-cycle performance review of South Texas Project Electric Generating Station, Units 1 and 2. The results of that review have been transmitted to you separately in a publicly available assessment letter. This letter informs you of the NRC's plans for future security-related inspections at your facility.

The enclosed inspection plan lists the security-related inspections scheduled through June 30, 2018. The inspections listed during the last nine months of the inspection plan are tentative and may be revised at the next semiannual performance review. The NRC provides the inspection plan to allow for the resolution of any scheduling conflicts and personnel availability issues. The NRC will contact you as soon as possible to discuss changes to the inspection plan should circumstances warrant any changes.

While we are fully committed to our goal of ensuring openness in our regulatory process, we must balance that goal with the more immediate need of ensuring the continued safety and secure operation of nuclear facilities and the protection of nuclear materials in our country.

Thus due to the security-related information contained in this correspondence, and in accordance with NRC Policy For Handling, Marking and Protecting Sensitive Unclassified Non-Safeguards Information, a copy of this letter and its enclosure will not be available for public inspection in either the NRC Public Document Room or the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS).

Please contact me at (817) 200-1527 with any questions you have regarding this letter.

Sincerely,/RA/ Mark S. Haire, Chief Plant Support Branch 1 Division of Reactor Safety Docket Nos. 50-498 and 50-499 License Nos. NPF-76 and NPF-80
