SUMMARY

OF APRIL 24,2012, PRE-APPLICATION MEETING TO DISCUSS THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION STANDARD 805 (NFPA 805) LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST (TAC NOS. ME8277 AND ME8278)

On April 24, 2012, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Northern States Power Company, a Minnesota corporation (NSPM, the licensee), at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss NSPM's future National Fire Protection Association Standard 805 (NFPA 805) license amendment request (LAR) for Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2. A notice for this meeting was issued on March 30, 2012, and is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML120870389. The licensee's meeting slides can be found in ADAMS Accession No. ML12115A311.

The licensee's presentation to the NRC staff included a status and overview of the NFPA 805 transition project, including planned modifications, LAR implementation, the fire probabilistic risk assessment activities, and the project challenges.

The NRC staff queried the licensee and provided feedback throughout the presentation. The licensee stated that the project is currently on schedule to submit the LAR by September 3D, 2012.

Members of the public were not in attendance. Public Meeting Feedback forms were not received. A list of attendees is included as an enclosure.
