SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET N05. 50-445 AND 50-446 AUXILIARY FEEDWATER PUMP MOTOR FANS SDAR: CP-87-33 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)

Gentlemen:

On December 14, 1987, TU Electric notified the NRC via final report logged TXX-7063 that the deficiency involving the rotational direction of the Auxiliary Feedwater (AFW) Pump Motor Cooling Fans was not reportable, but that corrective action would be taken. The purpose of this supplemental report is to revise the corrective action to preclude recurrence. These changes have been previously discussed in a revised response to Notice of Violation 50-445/87-27 and 50-446/87-20, item 3, logged TXX-88652 dated September 1,1988.

TXX-7063 indicated that specifications associated with safety-related systems, structures, and components would be reviewed to preclude recurrence of the condition identified in this SDAR. This review was not initiated in response to the subject SDAR, but rather was part of the CPSES Corrective Action Program (CAP). This review is being addressed by CAP.

To preclude recurrence of the condition identified in this SDAR, a review of safety-related motor specifications has been conducted to assure that proper rotation was specified for motors that utilized unidirectional fans. No deficiencies were identified. Additionally, safety related motors containing unidirectional fans were field checked to verify that fans are installed to rotate in the proper direction.

Based on the above, the corrective ection necessary for this SDAK is noW complete.

Sincerely, 60ghh $$hh 5 /th r s William J. Cahill, Jr.
