SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 SUPPORT OF CLASS 1E WIRING SDAR: CP-86-69

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On October 2,1986, we verbally notified your Mr. I. Barnes.of a deficiency regarding the failure to incorporate specific restraining / support requirements defined by IEEE Standard 420-1973, " Class 1E Control Switchboards," into project specifications and procedures. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).

An engineering evaluation is in process which will determine the applicability of IEEE 420 to specific equipment. This includes an equipment qualification report review to determine if unsupported field cables were installed during seismic testing and a procedural review to determine if deficiencies exist in prescribing support / restraint requirements.

After the defined evaluations and reviews are completed, an equipment inspection will be performed to identify non-conforming equipment (if any).

We anticipate submitting our next report on this issue no later than December 19, 1986.

Very truly yours, hl 8611050013 e61028 W. G. Counsil PDR ADOCK.05000445 S PDR DAR/amb c - NRC Region IV (0 + 1 copy)
