COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 FIRE EFFECTS ON INSTRUMENT TUBING SDAR: CP-86-16 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr.-Johnson:

On March 21, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. R. Hall of a deficiency involving the possible detrimental effects of low melting point metals in direct contact with stainless steel instrument tubing during a fire. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).

Efforts are underway by Gibbs & Hill and site engineering to specify a complete program _of corrective and prever:tive action. These efforts, including field verifications and the resolution of nonconformances, are scheduled for completion in May 1986. We anticipate submitting our next report by June 6, 1986.
