SHUTDOWN TO REPAlR TUDE LEAK At 11:29 a.m. (EST) January 30, 1989, the unit was taken off-line to repair a primary to secondary tube leak in the "B" Steam Generator. The leakage had been increasing since lanuary 24, 1989, and reached the licensee's administrative limit of 0.1 gpm on January 26.
(The technical specification limit is .3 gpm.) The licensee reduced power to 45 percent for testing and evaluation of the leak rate, which subsequently fell to .01 gpm on January 27.
The scope and duration of the outage has not been fonnalized, but it is expected to last about 30 days, and tentative plans include preventive plugging of about 180 steam generator tubes, and other activities.
Region !!! (Chicago) is monitoring the licensee's course of action.
