MUNICIPALITY WITHDRAWS FROM EMERGENCY PLANNING FOR LASALLE NUCLEAR PLANT On June 20, 1986, Region III (Chicago) received a letter from the Mayor of Seneca, Illinois, stating that the village was withdrawing its agreement to participate in emergency planning for the LaSalle Nuclear Power Station. The Mayor stated that the existing emergency plan is "not feasible for our Village . . . nor do I believe the plan, in view of all its shortcomings and problems, can be made to work." Seneca, with a population of about 2,100, is the nearest municipality to the LaSalle site.

The Mayor further requests that the plant not be permitted to resume operations (both units are shut down) until a " valid emergency plan is developed."

The State of Illinois and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have been informed.
