REQUEST TRISO-X, LLC. TO PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION TO RESOLVE PROGRAMMATIC REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE MANAGEMENT MEASURES AND QUALITY ASSURANCE PORTION OF THE LICENSE APPLICATION (ENTERPRISE PROJECT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER L-2022-NEW-0005)

Dear Jennifer Wheeler:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff requests TRISO-X, LLC (TRISO-X) to supplement their responses to the requests for additional information (RAIs) issued via letter dated March 31, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS]

Accession No. ML23127A011). These RAIs were issued to facilitate the NRC staff review of your application for a new fuel fabrication facility located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The original application was submitted via letter dated April 5, 2022 (ML22101A200) and supplemented by letters dated October 13, 2022 (ML22286A144), November 4, 2022 (ML22308A251) and February 29, (ML24060A239).

TRISO-X provided their initial responses to the RAIs via letter dated July 28, 2023 (ML23209A821). These responses were reviewed by the NRC staff and the issues raised in RAIs 1-1, 1-2, and 1-4 require additional information for resolution. The NRC staff held follow-up meetings with TRISO-X on December 18, 2023 (ML24002A825) and January 25, 2024 (ML24066A181) to discuss the additional information needed to resolve the RAIs.

Please provide the supplemental information to the NRC staff within 60 days of the date of this letter. In addition, the NRC staff recommends that TRISO-X provide a draft of the supplemental information to the NRC in advance of the formal submittal, and hold calls, as needed, with the NRC staff to confirm resolution of the issues identified in the RAIs. The June 2025 projected completion date for the review schedule is in the process of being extended based on receipt of electrical/instrumentation and control information dated February 29, 2024 (ML24060A239);

ongoing efforts to resolve the programmatic RAIs; and the TRISO-X notice of plans to revise the license application and integrated safety analysis summary submitted via letter dated January 20, 2024 (ML24020A010). An updated review scheduled will be communicated as soon as practicable.
