REQUEST TRISO-X, LLC. TO PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION TO RESOLVE PROGRAMMATIC REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE STRUCTURAL PORTION OF THE LICENSE APPLICATION (ENTERPRISE PROJECT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER L-2022-NEW-0005)

Dear Jennifer Wheeler:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff requests TRISO-X, LLC. (TRISO-X) to supplement their responses to the set six structural request for additional information (RAI) issued via letter dated November 17, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession No. ML23313A110). TRISO-X provided their initial responses to the RAIs via letter dated December 15, 2023 (ML23349A208), which resolved one of the RAIs, but the second item entitled, RAI-2 Risk Category remains open. The original license application was submitted via letter dated April 5, 2022 (ML22101A200) and supplemented by letters dated October 13, 2022 (ML22286A144), November 4, 2022 (ML22308A251) and February 29, 2024 (ML24060A239).

The NRC staff held two meetings with TRISO-X on March 1, 2024 (ML24030A847) and April 9, 2024 (ML24102A180) to discuss the additional information needed to resolve the open RAI. The supplemental information should seek to resolve the original RAI and take into consideration the discussions held during the follow-up meetings.

Please provide the supplemental information regarding RAI-2 Risk Category to the NRC staff within 60 days of the date of this letter. In addition, the NRC staff recommends that TRISO-X provide a draft of the supplemental information to the NRC in advance of the formal submittal, and hold calls, as needed, with the NRC staff to confirm resolution of the issues identified in the RAI. The June 2025 projected completion date for the review schedule is in the process of being extended based on receipt of electrical/instrumentation and control information dated February 29, 2024 (ML24060A239); ongoing efforts to resolve the programmatic RAIs; and the TRISO-X notice of plans to revise the license application and integrated safety analysis summary submitted via letter dated January 20, 2024 (ML24020A010). An updated review scheduled will be communicated as soon as practicable.
