1 ENCLOSURE 1 NOTICE OF VIOLATION Docket No. 50-369 Duke Power Company License No. NPF-9 McGuire During the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) inspection conducted on June 9-13, 1986, a violation of NRC requirements was identified.

The violation involved failure to document material and identification of calibrated instruments used to In accordance qualify shot peening procedure and personnel using the procedure.

10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C (1985), the violation is listed below:

10 CFR 50, Appendix B, Criterion IX as implemented by Topical Report Duke-2-A, Section 17.2.9 requires in part that approved procedures qualified in accordance with applicable standards shall provide for documented evidence of acceptable accomplishment of special processes using qualified... equipment.

Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, DPC is hereby required to subinit to this Office within 30 days of the date of the letter transmitting this Notice (1) admission or denial a written statement or explanation in reply including:

(2) the reason for the violation if admitted, (3) the of the violation, corrective steps which have been taken and the results achieved, (4) the corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further violations, and (5) the date when full compliance will be achieved.

Where good cause is shown, consideration will be given to extending the response time.
