0FFICE OF ENFORCEMENT NOTIFICATION OF SIGNIFICANT ENFORCEMENT ACTION Licensee: Mr. Robert J. Nelson (IA 97-033)

Sub.iect: ORDER PROHIBITING INVOLVEMENT IN NRC-LICENSED ACTIVITIES This is to inform the Commission that an Order Prohibiting Involvement in NRC-Licensed Activities for a period of one year will be issued on or about August 18. 1997, to an unlicensed individual who formerly worked as a valve maintenance technician at the McGuire Nuclear Plant. The action is based on an investigation conducted by the Office of Investigations, which determined that Mr. Nelson deliberately falsified a quality assurance document describing the replacement of a valve gasket on January 3, 1996. Furthermore, this action was warranted because Mr. Nelson was not forthright in providing information to both the licensee and the NRC.

It should be noted that the licensee has not been specifically informed of the enforcement action. The schedule of issuance and notification is:

Mailing of Notice August 18, 1997 Telephone Notification of Licensee August 18. 1997 The States of North and South Carolina will be notified.

The individual is prohibited from involvement in NRC-licensee activities for a period of one year, and is required to notify the NRC of his first involvement in NRC-licensee activities following the pronibition period.
