SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES), Unit 2 DOCKET NO. 50 446 EQUIPMENT CONDUli INTERFACE SDAR: CP 85 39 (SUPPLEMENTAL RLPORT)

Gentlemen:

On January 11. 1988, we notified you via TXX-88035 of the corrective actions to resolve the subject deficiency. In part the report discussed ceble slack acceptance criteria. Our last report was logged TXX 88773 dated November 9, 1988. This report is submitted to advise you of revised acceptance criteria offecting cable slack.

As stated in TXX 88035, inspections were conducted subsequent to the equipment conduit interface issue. During those inspections some raceway to equipment interface conditions were discovered which did not conform to the requirem9nts of the design documents. The three conditions were (1) cable s1cck inadequacy. (2) conduit to equipment interfaces installed outside of vendor areas and (3) conduit orientation within the vendor approved entry area, inspection requirements for items (2) and (3) will remain unchanged.

Concerning item (1), originally a 2" cable slack was required. This requirement was changed by deleting the 2" slack requirement. Previously, the electrical specification requtrement stated that sufficient slack is achieved by the following cable instal 1aon attributes:

(a) The cable bend radius meets specification requirements for training (forming).

(b) Unsupported cable lengths does not exceed 3 feet 6 inches.

(c) Unacceptable cable indentations do not exist at points of cable transition.

These require * :nts have not changed with exception of item (b),

The requirement for unrupported cable lengths of 3' 6" has been relaxed to 4'*6" for Unit 2 only. The initial requirement 3' 6" was more conservative than the industry standard of 4' 6".

The new requirement of 4' 6" has been evaluated and documented for weight l considerations and assures that cable slack will be maintained.

Documentation supporting the above evaluation is available onsite for your review.

Sincerely, William J. Cahill, Jr.
