1. LER NUMBER: 83-035/03L-0
11. LASALLE COUNTY STATION: Unit 1 111. DOCKET NUMBER: 050-373 IV. EVENT DESCRIPTION:

On April 6',1983 at 1500 hours0.0174 days
0.417 hours
0.00248 weeks
5.7075e-4 months
the Off Gas "1 A" Hydrogen Analyzer was noted to have problems maintaining the proper vacuum within its sampling system.

The "1B" Hydrogen Analyzer would not operate properly either. Rad / Chem was notified to collect grab samples once per four (4) hours per Technical Speci fication 3.3.7.11.

V. PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES OF THE OCCURRENCE:

At the time of the occurrence, the reactor was in the RUN Mode at 760 MWT, 240 MWE. The maximum Hydorgen Concentration in the Rad / Chem samples was 0.08% Hydrogen; therefore, the Off' Gas Hydrogen Recombiner operated properly throughout the event. Safe plant operation was maintained at all times.

Other failures of the Hydrogen Analyzers were reported in LER 82-104,82-120, 82-147, and 83-25 VI. CAUSE:

The flame arrestor in the "A" Analyzer required ~ cleaning. This caused the l vacuum problems.

I On 3/17/83 the calibration timer on the "B" Analyzer was replaced, in the l process of replacement, the purge timer was inadvertently wired incorrectly.

l This caused the "B" Analyzer to remain in the calibration mode.

These Analyzers are G. E. Model OGA 200AB.

Vll. CORRECTIVE ACTION:

Work Request #L23788 on the "A" Analyzer was completed on 4/8/83. The Analyzer sas then calibrated satisfactorily per LIS-0G-06.

l Work Request #L23913 was written on the "B" Analyzer and completed on 4/26/83. Testing on the Analyzer will be performed following Unit I startup af ter this April outage to prove satisfactory performance.
