1. LER NUMBER: 83-012/03X-1
11. LASALLE COUNTY STATION: Unit 1 til. DOCKET NUMBER: 050-373 IV. EVENT DESCRIPTION:

On February 10,1983 at 0730 hours0.00845 days
0.203 hours
0.00121 weeks
2.77765e-4 months
, during the performance of LIS-RI-03, RCIC leak detection temperature switch calibration, with the reactor in Cold shutdown, it was observed that the setpoints for0 temperature switches 1E31-N612A and 1E31-N612B were at 2080F. This is 2 F above the Ilmiting condition of operation.setpoint of 206 F, as stated in Technical Specifi-cation Table 3.3.2-2 V. PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES OF THE OCCURRENCE:

The temperature switches were still functioning but would have alarmed two degrees higher than the allowed temperature setpoint. In addition, a redundant temperature recorder,1E31-R608, would have alarmed at the correct setpoint. This recorder showed that no high temperatures were seen in the area covered by the temperature switches and therefore the Unit was main-tained in a safe condition at all times.

VI. CAUSE:

The exact cause of the temperature drif t has not been determined. Switches 1E31-N612A and 1E31-N612B were identified in LER-83-005/01T-0 as being po-tentially defective by reason that the modules were loading down the thermo-couple beyond-the-allowable range.

Vll. CORRECTIVE ACTION:"

Temperature switches 1E31-N612A and 1E31-N612B were calibrated immediately to the correct setpoint of 195 F. The Vendor, Panalarm Division of the Riley Company, as well as General Electric, have investigated the related problem identified in LER 83-005/01T-0. AIR 1-83-51 was wri tten' to . track the resul ts of the investigation. The long term corrective action to be taken is a change to the calibration procedures which are being tracked by AIR 1-83-95. No hardware changes are presently anticipated.
