Response to IE Bulletin No. 79-26, Rev. 1 O

" Boron Loss From BWR Control Blades"

2) Letter from R. L. Gridley to Dr. W. V. Johnston (NRC)

Dated April 8, 1981, " Control Blade Examination and Response to Item 4 of IED 79-26, NEDE-24325-P"

Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

In Reference 1 the District stated that General Electric would file a generic report * 'th the NRC in response to Item 4 of IE Bulletin 79-26 which required destructive examination of BWR control blades.

The results of this examination were provided directly the NRC in Reference 2.

At the request of the staff, this letter is written to confirm that the data presented in Reference 2 are applicable to and representative of the control blades at Cooper Nuclear Station.

The GE report confirms that the loss of boron based on 50% local boron depletion is predictable, and is not affected by the plant operating parameters.

Sincerely, W
