SUBJECT:

Arkansas Nuclear One - Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-313 and 50-368 License Nos. DPR-51 and NPF-6 IE Bulletin 80-06 ESF Reset Controls (File: 1510.1,2-1510.1)

Gentlemen:

In response to your letter dated January 12, 1981, the following is provided. "The equipment referred to below was described by name or function in our initial submittal."

1. Describe, in a narrative manner, the modifications implemented in ANO-1, and the modifications to be implemented in AN0-2.

RESPONSE

ANO-1:

On Unit 1, CV-2214 and CV-6203 control circuits were modified by adding a seal-in circuit that will keep the valves in the ES position after the ES signal has been reset. The valves will

, then have to be manually repositiened by the operator using the valve handswitch in the control room. An existing relay contact was used to accomplish this change.

Also on Unit 1. CV-2100 through CV-2116 controi circuits were modified by adding a seal-in contact around the ES contact that will keep the valves in the ES position after the ES signal has been reset. The valves will then have to be manually reset by /)

the operator using the reset pushbutton that was added by this modi fication. An existing relay was used to provide .the seal-f/007 3

in contact.

Mr. Robert W. Reid January 26, 1981 ANO-2:

On Unit 2, 2CV-5001-1, 2CV-5021-1, 2CV-5041-2 and 2CV-5061-2 control circuits are to be modified by changing the handswitch to a spring return to center type and adding a seal-in contact to keep the valves in the ES position after the ES signal has been reset.

2CV-5628-2 control circuit will be modified by changing the handswitch to a spring return to center type that will keep the valve in the ES position. Operator action will be required

to change the valve position.

2CV-5126-1, 2CV-5127-1, 2CV-5128-1, 2CV-5672-1 and 2CV-5673-1 control circuits are to be modified by changing the handswitch to a spring return to center type that will keep the valves in the ES position. Operator action will be required to reposition the valves.

2CV-5123-1 and 2CV-5124-1 control circuits will be modified by changing the handswitch to a spring return to center type that will keep the valves in the ES position until operator action is initiated to reposition the valves.

2CV-5647-1 and 2CV-5648-2 control circuits will be modified by changing the handswitch to a spring return to center type and adding a relay to accomplish the override circuit for these valves. The override and the nomal reposition will require operator action.

2CV-5649-1 and 2CV-5650-2 control circuits will be modified by changing the handswitch to a spring return to center type and adding a relay to accomplish the override circuit for these valves. The override and nomal reposition will require operator action.

. Also on Unit 2, 2CV-0714-1 and 2CV-0798-1 control circuits will

! be modified by changing the handswitch to a spring return to center i

type and adding a relay and seal-in contact that will keep the valves in the ES position until operator action is initiated to reposition the valves.

2. Indicate whether the ANO-1 modifications were verified through testing, and when this was complete.

RESPONSE

The modifications which were made for ANO-1 were verified by testing.

ihis was completed lon May 2,1980.

Mr. Robert W. Reid January 26, 1981

3. Indicate a commitment to verify AN0-2 modifications throus :

testing, and expected completion date.

RESPONSE

As stated in our June 18, 1980 letter to K. V. Seyfrit, those components which we have identified as requiring modifications will be modified and tested prior to startup from the upcoming refueling outage (scheduled to begin on or about April 1,1981). , ,

Very truly yours, bYff David C.'Trimble Manager, Licensing DCT: :1p I
