Dear Mr. Keppler:

In response to IE Bulletin Ho.79-03A, Public Service Coupany of Indiana, Inc., (PSI) has determined that some 5A-312 fusion welded pipe is planned for use in safety-related systems at Marble Hill. A review of system designs is presently being conducted to determine which systems using SA-312 fusion welded pipe are subjected to design stressen greater than 85 percent of the ASME Code allowable stresses. Per the guidance of Mr. D. Danielson of the NRC Office of Inspection and Enforcement, Region III, it will only be necessary to etch the accessible ends of safety-related SA-312 and A-312 fraion welded pipe where it is subjected to design stresses greater than 85 percent of the ASME Code allowable stresses.

Most of the system designs reviewed to date are not subject to design stresses greater than 85 percent of the Code allowable stresses; however, due to the magnitude of this review, PSI needs additional time to complete the actions required by this bulletin. PSI therefore requests an '

extension to November 1, 1980, to respond to this bulletin.
