Youngblood, Chief Licensing Branch No. 1 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington D.C. 20555 RE: Operating License for Marble ' dill Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, Jefferson County, Indiana.

Dear Mr. Youngblood:

Members of my staff have reviewed the information that was provided for the above-referenced facility. Accordingly, we offer the following comment.

The operation of the Marble Hill Nuclear Station could have serious impacts on the aquatic biota of the Ohio River. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) reviewed both the draf t and Final Environmental Impact Statements for the construction of the proposed facility. These documents addressed the problems associated with intrainment and impingement for organisms by the water intake and the problems related to the thermal discharge during operation. KDFWR concurred with findings of the staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and continue to support those findings.

KDFWR recommends the staff findings in both the Draft and Final Marble Hill Nuclear Station Environment Impact Statement be fully implemented along with a complete monitoring program.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

Sincerely,
