Dear Mr. Keppler:

SUBMITTAL DATE EXTENSION 10CFR50.55(e) REPORT BERGEN-PATERSON PIPE SUPPORT STRUT WITH MECHANICAL SHOCK ARRESTOR CALLAWAY PLANT UNIT 1 On July 2, 1980 we provided NRC Region III verbal notification of a 50.55(e) report regarding a potential bolt head-pipe clamp interference.which may hinder the full function of Bergen-Paterson pipe support strut assemblies containing Pacific Scientific mechanical shock arrestors. We were advised of this deficiency and the recommended modifications by a Bergen-Paterson letter dated June 23, 1980. In a letter dated July 14, 1980, Bergen-Paterson provided a corrected list of af fected pipe supports which needs further clarification.

Our A/E, Faentel Power Corporation, is presently evaluating the modifications recommended by Bergen-Paterson and obtaining confirmation of the affected supports. We anticipate that we will be able to submit a final report covering this matter by September 30, 1980.

truly yours, Very f /
