WESTINGHOUSE 7300 PROCESS PROTECTION SYSTEM (SDR 83-08)
Reference:
SLNRC 84-0007, dated January 24, 1984 The reference letter provided an interim report regarding the seismic chatter of the NTC card relay used in the Westinghouse Process Protection System.
The interim report stated a suitable replacement relay for this NTC card had not yet been developed by Westinghouse and that the Callaway Plant would have the relay bypassed via a jumper wire.
This eliminates the possibility of seismically induced chatter and the resulting adverse consequences.
It is Union Electric's position that this bypassing is a workable permanent solution that will not degrade plant safety or preclude fuel load.
SNUPPS will pursue with Westinghouse a replacement relay; however it will be at Union Electric's option to install the replacement relay once it is developed.
This is Union Electric's final report on this subject.
