Dear Mr. Keppler:

AMENDMENT TO 10CFR50.55(e) REPORT U-72 PENETRATION SEAL INSTALLATION AND INSPECTION CALLAWAY PLANT Ref: ULNRC-786 April 4, 1984 On April 4, 1984, Union Electric submitted to the NRC Region III the reference final 10CFR50.55 (e) report regarding silicone foam penetration seals. The report stated " Reinspection and any necessary repairs will be complete by April 22, 1984 on all silicone foam-filled wall and floor penetrations."

Subsequent review of the schedule and the work progress indicates that not all of the referenced seals will be completed by this date. Therefore, as required in the Callaway Plant Technical Specification, Limiting Condition for Operation, a fire watch will be established at the time of fuel load in accordance with the Action Statement of 3.7.lla as follows:

"With one or more of the above required fire barrier penetrations inoperable, within 1 hour1.157407e-5 days
2.777778e-4 hours
1.653439e-6 weeks
3.805e-7 months
establish a continuous fire watch on at least one side of the affected penetration, or verify the OPERABILITY of fire detectors on at least one side of the inoperable fire barrier and establish an hourly fire watch patrol."

These measures will ensure that the integrity of the fire protection program is maintained until any inoperable silicone foam penetration seals are restored to an operable status.

Ver truly yo rs,

'~
