1901 Grotet Street St Louis August 28, 1985 Donald F. Schnell Vice Presiderst Mr. James G. Keppler Regional Administrator U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
Dear Mr. Keppler:
ULNRC-ll65 SUPPLEMENT TO 10CFR50.55(e)/PART 21 REPORT U-70 EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATOR KEEPWARM LUBE OIL PUMP CALLAWAY PLANT Ref:
- 1. ULNRC-780 3/28/84
- 2. ULNRC-831 5/26/84
- 3. ULNRC-925 9/12/84 The references describe failures of the Crane-Deming keepwarm lube oil pumps on the Callaway Plant Emergency Diesel Generators and actions to be taken to resolve the problem.
In reference 3 we stated that the permanent replacement pumps would be relocated remote from the engine skid to improve accessibility and facilitate pump alignment.
Since the installation of the interim commercial grade pumps in the original configuration on the engine skid, as described in reference 3, we have experienced 11 months of trouble free operation without any alignment difficulties.
We have concluded, therefore, that relocation of the pumps to a remote skid is not necessary or justifiable.
Amending the information provided in reference 3, it is our intent to install the permanent ASME Section III equivalent pumps in the original configuration on the engine skid.
The permanent replacement pumps will be installed no later than the first refueling, as previously scheduled.
Very truly yours,
.c h Donald F.
