- _ .(SE) of the NRC staff's December 5-8, 1988 audit of the AP&L/ANO-1 response to L IE Bulletin 79-27. The staff concluded in the SE that_ AP&L has adequately 4

- the concerns of "EB 79-27, but expressed concern that ANO-1 has no L procedures for testing the non-nuclear instrumentation (NNI)/ICS power supply autcmatic bus transfer (ABT) switches and the inverter static transfer switches.
Your' letter further requested that we evaluate the NRC staff's position that L
_perio'dic testing of the switches;is necessary to demonstrate their reliability,
=and that we provide the respits of our evaluation and plans for testing,
" - As discussed with the IEB 79-27 audit team members during the audit and in the audit exit meeting, AP&L does perform routine preventive maintenance (cleaning and inspection) of the switches under the AP&L PM Program. The specific PM procedures were. developed in accordance with the equipment manufacturers' recommendations.
AP&L has not yet determined whether periodic testing of the switches is
