REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION JUNE 7,2011 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC or the applicant) held a telephone conference call on June 7, 2011, to discuss the response in FENOC Letter L-11-153 dated May 24, 2011, to NRC request for additional information (RAI) B.2. 7-1 regarding the proposed Davis-Besse License Renewal Buried Piping Program.

Discussion on Response to RAI B.2. 7-1 :

1) The staff stated that, in response to RAI B.2. 7-1 request #3, the applicant stated its intentions regarding the equipment that would be protected with cathodic protection, yet license renewal future commitment #3 on page 137 of the Enclosure to the letter was not updated.

The applicant stated that it will update and revise commitment #3 to state that Service Water System piping and emergency diesel generator fuel oil storage tanks will be cathodically protected prior to the period of extended operation.

The revision will be submitted with the next set of RAI responses, currently scheduled for June 15,2011.

2) The staff stated that, after reviewing response to RAI B.2.7-1 request #10, clarifying information was needed regarding the applicant's intentions should adverse indications be identified during buried piping inspections. The staff stated that a basis is needed for additional buried in-scope piping inspections for continued reasonable assurance of the integrity of buried piping.

The applicant stated that clarifying information on the scope of additional sampling for buried piping should adverse indications be identified during inspections will be submitted with the next batch of RAls currently scheduled for June 15, 2011.
