ýq (ý-ql Page I (if 2 EFH for the Mid-Atlantic Site Overview Links EFH Descriptions and Identifications Mid-Atlantic Council Overview The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (MAFMC) is one of eight regional fishery management councils created by the 1976 Magnuson Fisheries Conservation and Management Act, renamed Magnuson Stevens Fisheries Conservation and Management Act in 1996, to manage living marine resources within that area.

The MAFMC is responsible for the creation of management plans for fishery resources (FMPs) in Federal waters off New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. These FMPs are for: Atlantic bluefish; Atlantic suifclam and ocean quahog; Atlantic mackerel, squid and butterfish; Atlantic flounder, scup and black seabass; spiny dogfish; and tilefish. The EFH descriptions and identifications for the Mid-Atlantic's FMPs were approved on April 28, 1999, for Atlantic surfclam and ocean quahog; Atlantic mackerel, squid and butterfish;, Atlantic flounder, scup and black seabass. EFH descriptions and identifications for Atlantic bluefish were approved on July 29, 1999. Spiny dogfish EFH descriptions and identifications were approved on September 29, 1999 and tilefish EFH descriptions and identifications were approved on May 10, 2001. This website is designed to inform viewers about these Mid-Atlantic EFH descriptions and identifications.
