Dear Governor Corzine,

I am following-up my phone call to your office today to reiterate that I want the ecology of Barnegat Bay protected by enforcement of the Clean Water Act through installation of closed cooling towers at. Oyster Creek.

Significant harm to the marine ecosystem has resulted due to the super heated 1.5 billion gallons of Banegat Bay water that is sucked daily threw the cooling system and then discharged back into Barnegat Bay.

Destruction of shellfish larvae, sea turtles and micro-organisms of many kinds are noted, as well as the problems of super-heated water, which appears to be a factor in attracting the stinging nettle jellyfish. The balanced habitat of Barnegat Bay has been harmed. The federal government no longer allows plants of Oyster Creek's design to be constructed.

Our once beautiful bay beaches are now "unswimmable" due to presence of stinging jellyfish. Ocean County children, grandchildren and visitors are deprived of the safe, calm bay waters that once provided so much enjoyment from mid-May through October for swimming and other aquatic activities.

Please enforce the Clean Water Act and require Oyster Creek to installa closed loop system of cooling towers.

Sincerely, Regina I. Birchler cc:
