RE: Oyster Creek MTBE The following is abstracted from the technical memo dated 8/12/05 sent to me by the Case Geologist regarding the AOC where the MTBE had previously been found.

NJDEP Commen-: on AOC-lG: Gasoline and Diesel Fuel ASTs.

GPU proposed Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA) for this AOC, with a Classification Exception Area (CEA) as an institutional control.

The NJDEP approved the proposal, in anticipation of submission of the appropriate supporting information.

JCP&L Response:

JCP&L referred to the Remedial Action Workplan (RAW) dated February 11, 2000, which contained the Disperse model (Appendix H), and the CEA (Appendix L).

The Disperse model predicted the plume would be approximately 400 feet long and 160 feet wide.

Six monitoring wells were installed downgradient of this AOC, five (5) in the shallow Cape May Formation and one (1) in the deeper Cohansey Formation.

Locations were chosen based on results from the Hydropunch samples in the SI/RI, downgradient and sidegradient of the well having the highest concentrations of contamination (MW-lG-1A) to verify the plume is within the predicted area.

The analytical results show the plume has been horizontally and verticalLy delineated, and it conforms to the predicted extent.

Levels of MTBE and TBA show decreasing trends, suggesting natural attenuation is occurring.

Monitoring wells were sampled again in September 2004 and December 2004.

Six of the seven wells were sampled.

Well MW-lG-5A was dry during the September 2004 sampling event.

During the December 2004 event, well MW-lG-5A and was buried under a large mound of construction debris and is presumably destroyed.

Levels of MTBE were at or below 7.2 mg/l, below the Ground Water Quality Criterion of 70 mg/l, and TBA was not detected.

JCP&L Proposal:

Since contaminant concentration are below the Ground Watei Quality Criteria, JCP&L propose no further action (NFA) for this AOC.

BGWPA Response:

The proposal is acceptable.

Hello again Hurdo, Is it possible for you to send me an email that describes what you told me yesterday on the phone.

Information on your geologist's check on the MTBE by the aboveground :ank facility now being below state standard would be helpful for completing our records for this project.
