ARKANSAS POWER & LIGHT COMPANY June 29, 1988 BCAN068813 U. S. Nuclear Reculatory Commission Document Control Desk Mail Station P1-137 Washington, DC 20555 ATTN: Mr. C. Craig Harbuck Project Manager Project Directorate IV Division of Reactor Projects III, IV, V and Special Projects Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulations SUBJELI: Arkansas Nuclear One - Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-313 and 50-368 License Nos. DPR-51 and NPF-6 Secondary Power Supply Upgrade Schedule Extension

Dear Mr. Harbuck:

In our letter of February 24, 1988 (0CAN028803), we provided schedules for the implementation of proposed AN0 Industrial Security Plan revisions associated with the Miscellaneous Amendments and Search Requirements changes to 10CFR73.55. At that time we anticipated completing the modifications necessary to protect the secondary power supply by July 1,1988. While the majority of the work necessary to protect the secondary power supply as vital has been completed, we will require an additional 30 days to completely implement the necessary modifications.

Guidance provided with the changes to 10CFR73.55 allowed 180 days following Commission approval to implement necessary modifications. Although we understand our proposed changes have been forwarded for approval within the NRC Staff, to date Arkanses Power & Light Company (AP&L) has yet to receive the NRC's formal approval of our proposed plan changes. Considering the 30 day extension in our implementation schedule, AP&L will still be in compliance with the NRC implementation guidance.
