Reference 1 conveyed Pilgrim Station LER 97-013-00, "Nonsafety Related Control Cables Not Identified and Separated as Safety-Related", to the NRC. In that LER, Boston Edison Company committed to completing the evaluation of the load shed design by October 31, 1997, and to completing the design of modificaticas to resolve identified nonconformances by December 31,1997.

Currently, an extensive evaluation of the load shed design has been completed. Also, a modification team has been created, and the detailed design work is i,1 progress.

However, as a result of the evaluation and the desire to provide more single failure margin than originally plannea, the scope and coms,lexity of the modification has substantially increased. This requires deferral of the target completion date to April 30,1998.

Additionally, the designers have confirmed that a lengthy plant outage will probably be required to implement the modification being designed. Therefore, the modification will most likely not be completed until RFO 12, which is scheduled fr Spring 1999. The designers have also confirmed that the safety consequences described in LER 97-013-00 are still bounding so there is no threat to public health and safety, f
