UNIT 1 Enclosed is Licensee Event Report 1998-017-00 for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unit 1. This report is provided in accordance with 10 CFR 50.73(a)(2)(ii)(B), "Any event or condition that resulted in the condition of the nuclear power plant, including its principal safety barriers, being seriously degraded." ,
This report describes the discovery of weld deficiencies on a piping support for the "B" loop RTD I manifold bypass piping. This support provided a pipe whip restraint function. The failure of this pipe whip restraint given the unlikely event of a reactor coolant system pipe rupture had the potential to impact other safety related components in the vicinity of the support.
This report contains no new commitments.
