DOCKET 50-301 LICENSEE EVENT REPORT 1998-002-00 REACTOR COOLANT PUMP COMPONENT COOLING WATER RETURN LINE CHECK VALVE SERIOUSLY DEGRADED POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT. UNIT 2 Enclosed is Licensee Event Report 1998-002-00 for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unit 2. This report is provided in accordance with 10 CFR 50.73(aX2Xii), "Any event or condition that resulted in the condition of the nuclear power plant, including its principal safety barriers, being -

seriously degraded." This report describes the discovery of a reactor coolant pump component cooling water return line check valve in a condition that would prevent its closure. This condition could result in loss of component cooling fluid into containment given the unlikely event of the break of a reactor coolant pump component cooling line and the simultaneous failure of a remote operated isolation valve.
