Dear Mr. Hunter:

This letter provides the final report submitted pursuant to 100FR50.55(e) on installation of paddle washers on piping sway struts at Wolf Creek Generating Station. This concern was initially reported on July 15, 1983, with supplemental information provided in the Reference.

As documented in the Reference, several sway struts were identified as

potentially having incorrect paddle washers installed or washers installed incorrectly. After reviewing this concern, it was determined that suf-ficient information may not have been provided to the crafts to assure proper installation. Therefore, Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) decided to have all of the sway struts in question inspected, and reworked if necessary, to assure that the correct washers were installed properly.

This inspection effort, and any necessary rework, is being accomplished in lieu of performing a case-by-case engineering evaluation of the safety implications of any incorrect washer configuration.

Corrective Action Report 1-G-0033 documents the actions described above and provides a controlled mechanism to assure the actions are completed.

The inspection and rework effort is currently 97% complete and will be 100% complete prior to fuel load.

Please contact me or Mr. Otto Maynard of my staf f if you have any questions concerning this subject.

Yours very truly, 8410110254 840921 PDR ADOCK 05000482 PDR b S r Ql f/
