Dear.v. Denise:
r This letter provides notification pursuant to 10CFR21.21 concerning Ruskin Pire Danpers installed at Wolf Creek Generating Station (NCGS). This matter was initially reported by Mr. H. K.
Chernoff of Kansas Gas ar.d Electric Conpany (KG&E) to Mr. L. E.
Martin of the M2 clear Regulatory Comission, Region IV, on April 26, 1985.
The subject fire danpers were acnufactured by Ruskin Manufacturing Co., of Grandview, Missouri.
Some danpers were found to have less than the designed clearance between the fire danper frame and the penetration sleeve. During a fire, thermal expansion of a fire danper, without the design clearances, could result in buckling of the fire danper frame.
This could potentially affect the integrity of the danper.
A reinspection of the affected Ruskin Fire Danpers is currently being performed.
Those danpers found in a discrepant condition will be reworked in order to assure the integrity and proper functioning of the fire danpers.
