KMLNRC 84-197 Re Docket No. STN 50-482 Subj Final 10CFR50.55 (e) Report - Turbine Driven Auxiliary Feedwater Pump Governor Valve Guide Stem Bushing (53564-K156)

Dear Mr. Deniso:

This letter provides the final report submitted pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e) concerning turbine driven auxiliary feedwater pump (TDAFWP) governor valve stem guide bushings at Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCCS).

This matter was initially retorted by Mr. !!.K. Chernoff of Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) to Mr. Robert Smith of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region IV, on October 17, 1984.

This issue was originally identified as a 10 CFR Part 21 by the Terry Corpo ra ti on, The 10 CPR Part 21 notification described the possibility of a loose governor valve stem guide bushing present on the turbine driven auxiliary feedwater pump governor supplied by the Terry CorIoration.

This potential deficiency could have prevented the governor valve from completely closing, thus possibly resulting in an overspeed trip of the TDAFWP during startup.

An investigation of this matter by KG&E revealed that none of the defective parts described by the Terry Corporation were ever installed in t.he WCGS TDAFWP governor, llowever, a spare governor valve ntem guide bushing of the type de.4cribed had been delivered to WCCS as a spare part.

The afore-mentioned part has been tagged out and segregated in the warehouse to pre-clude any possibility of its installation prior to eventual scrapping of the part.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact me or Mr. Otto Maynard of my staf f.
